PPI
Proton pump inhibitor — blocks stomach acid production.
Definition
PPIs (omeprazole, pantoprazole, esomeprazole) reduce stomach acid by inhibiting the acid-producing pump. First-line for GERD and peptic ulcers. Short-term use is very safe; long-term use needs periodic review.
